FAQ Webbing & Loom

1. How do I know which webbing I should use?

All of the webbings have their own special characteristics.  If you do not know which is most suitable for you - please contact us.  We will be very happy to discuss the possibilities with you, and give you the best advice possible.  Below a few comments:

Rattan cane webbing is especially suited for applications requiring strength and flexibilty - ideal for seating.  For decoration purposes it has a natural sheen - after application no need to apply further varnsih or laquer for colour.

Core webbings are especially suited for decoration, as they are made from the porous pith of the plant.  Lacquer, paint, and varnish are easily applied.

Paper webbing can be used as an alternative to the rattan webbing, and is often used as decoration in panels and radiator screened.  Reinforced with nylon, it can be easily used in applications requiring extra strength.

Plastic is obviously an option for outdoor use or for kitchens and bathrooms (although rattans can certainly be used too!)

2. How is it sold?  What is the minimum quantity?

We endeavor to keep ample stock of the most used models in the most required widths.  For rattans this is 40cm, 45cm, 60 cm and 90 cm. (16", 18", 24"and 36") For paper and plastic 45cm and 60 cm.  Standard length for all webbings is 15,24 m (50').

Minimum order quantity is 1 roll.

3. What is rattan anyway?  What is wicker? What's the difference? And why not bamboo?

Wicker is the word given to final product of especially furniture and occasional furniture woven from grasses, plants and vines - and these are mainly rattan and bamboo.

The word itself dates back to the 1300's  and is Scandinavian meaning "willow branch" or as a verb "to move, turn, or bend ".  You get the idea. Pliable and natural.

And an extra bonus - it's strong.

The rattan plant grows in long vines - 100 meters (300 feet) is not unusual - and it is strong, flexible and replenshes itself easily. So add environmentally friendly to its qualities.

It grows in the tropics and subtropics - but the rattan used in our products is from Indonesia.

Bamboo is a grass in fact and also grows quickly so replenishable and a great alternative when choosing environmentally sound materials for making your products.
